Change of Heart is a self-published fanzine.
The story follows Kat, a young woman recovering from heartbreak after the end of a relationship with her girlfriend. In an attempt to start anew, she turns to “Clinic Corazón,” a hospital that promises to cure heartbreak through surgical removal and replacement of the heart. After the operation, Kat discovers that even without the memories of her ex, something vital is missing, like a phantom limb. This emptiness pushes her into a surreal journey of self-discovery, where her consciousness splits into two: “Mini-Kat,” who travels inside her body in search of the new heart, and Kat herself, who must confront what it truly means to move forward.
At its core, Change of Heart is about loss, body dysphoria, and the painful but transformative process of letting go. The narrative is rooted in my own experiences with endometriosis and infertility, and learning to grieve versions of myself that might never exist, while finding strength in acceptance.
The original zine consists of four A3 chapters (Change of Heart, The Clinic, Post Op, Mini-Kat).
